Fine-tuning

AI & Technology
Definition

Further training a pre-built AI model on specific data to make it better at a particular task or domain. Rather than building a model from scratch, fine-tuning adapts an existing model using a smaller, targeted dataset.

Example in context

A legal firm fine-tunes an existing language model on thousands of contract documents, producing an AI assistant that drafts clauses with accurate legal terminology.
